Traits
Every organism has DNA. Chromosomes are composed of DNA. Pieces of the chromosomes are genes. Genes code for different proteins. Humans all have the same genes, but what makes us different are our alleles. Alleles are different versions of a gene. A person can have the alleles for blue eyes while another has the alleles for brown; they both have genes that code for eyes, but just different colors. This is true of the traits that we possess.
Below are pictures of DNA coiled up into a chromosome. It also shows that genes are just segments of the DNA. The second picture shows that genes are located on the same place on chromosomes, but the alleles are just different.
